dental discoloration

Dental Discoloration

It is the color of teeth than the white or yellowish-white of normal teeth.

General considerations

Dental bleaching can be caused by many different factors. Some of them influence the formation of enamel, while others cause stains on it. The discoloration may be uniform or as spots or lines in the enamel. It is possible that the discolored areas will also have a density and porosity than those of normal enamel.

The factors that influence the color of teeth may be genetic, congenital (present at birth), infectious and environmental. Inherited diseases may influence the thickness of the enamel or the calcium or protein content. Metabolic diseases (diseases caused by malfunctions in body processes) can cause abnormalities in both the color and shape.

Drugs and medicines that the mother takes during pregnancy or the child during tooth development may cause changes in color and hardness of enamel. (more…)
